Last night, I couldn't sleep. As I lay in bed, my mind was racing. In my head, sentences were being formed, arranging themselves into paragraphs. Until 5 a.m. I wrestled with my overactive brain, trying to keep the words in check - but to no avail. Please, I argued with myself, I need to sleep. But they paid no heed, until I finally picked up my phone in the dark, and allowed the tangle of  words to arrange themselves in some semblance of order and coherency. Here is my story.

I have a dream, and it is slowly coming to life in a hidden corner of my craft room.

Since early childhood, I have been captivated by the realm of fantasy magic and mythical beasts. It started with fairy tales and make believe, reveling in my favourites like Cinderella, Peter Pan, the Wizard of Oz, Wind in the Willows... and playing dress up, creating fanciful characters and enacting their adventures. As I grew older, I read voraciously, obsessively. The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia and The Earthsea Cycle led to a passion for King Arthur tales, The Lord of the Rings and eventually Harry Potter, Outlander and All Souls. And so many more wondrous tales.

Now that I am in the last quarter of my life, I find myself once again drawn to the world of magic and enchantment: fairies and pixies, gnomes and elves, unicorns and dragons. Having young grandchildren has reawakened that fascination with the world of magic and I have embarked on a project that we can share together. While we still believe.

So that is my quest. To bring to life, in a corner of my craft room (where magic happens all the time), a glimpse into a world of wonder, creativity and imagination, a place where fantasies can be imagined and enacted, and enjoyed.

I call it The Fairy Forest: A Quest.
